Carrollwood

Greater Carrollwood is an established and popular neighborhood just north of Busch Boulevard and east of Dale Mabry. This region has grown steadily over the last 30 years, offering considerable amenities, including affordable homes, schools, recreation centers, lakefront beaches and a variety of commercial and dining establishments.

The Greater Carrollwood area was started by Matt Jetton in 1957 when he acquired the 200-acre Ingram orange grove near Lake Carroll. Two years later, the first homes were sold in what is now known as Original Carrollwood. He attributed much of Carrollwood’s early success to the establishment of the University of South Florida four years earlier, just to the east. Over the next few years, Carrollwood Village, Lake Ellen Woods, Tarawood, Brentwood, Arlington, Hunter’s Lake, Reynoldswood, Lake Magdalene Estates and Cherry Creek were established just north of Original Carrollwood, between Fletcher and Bearss Avenues.

Today greater Carrollwood stretches for miles through northwestern Hillsborough, encompassing nearly 110,000 residents and about 2,500 businesses.
